Originally Goa was served by a metre gauge line down the ghats from Castle Rock and Londa which terminated at the port of Vasco de Gama. When the Konkan line opened the original line was converted to broad gauge. It serves extensive iron ore mines and these add to heavy freight traffic as the two lines briefly come together in Goa
