1980 marked the 150th anniversary of the Rainhill Trials and the opening of the first public railway. To mark this a cavalcade was held at Rainhill with appearances from locomotives representative of the 150 year time span.

Not a great opportunity for a photographer but there were a great many historic locomotives in steam all in one place. We managed to get a good viewpoint away from the main grandstand.
